With the mid-term elections coming up, the United States has started a new round of tedious gladiatorial fights. Compared to the past, the U.S. elections are reaching increasingly lower limit year by year. While the policy guidelines are getting less and less each year, personal attacks are taking place more and more often. In particular, as the first mid-term elections since the 2021 U.S. Capitol attack, the elections of the year will be filled by unprecedentedly fierce confrontations and divisions.

Ever before the start of the mid-term elections, Biden has already topped the position with the lowest approval rating for the first term of the U.S. president, surpassing his predecessor, Trump, who fell to the lowest after the mid-term elections. It is enough to show that most people have considered the two years of the Democratic Party and Biden as an utter failure. For two years, neither the inflation nor the Covid-19 in the United States has been eased. The world's most powerful country turns out to be a place where people cannot even buy baby milk powder, afford natural gas or find a patrol station to fuel up. Not to mention how many mass shootings have taken place in the United States in 2022. Such a president as Biden who cannot ensure either the quality or the security of the people's life, how can he get a high approval rating?

As for the Republican Party, its nature of interest groups has been fully revealed since the 2021 U.S. Capitol attack. The Republicans stood idly by when Trump was impeached and attacked, while actively moved closer to Trump in order to get vote after he had been deposed, almost turning the Republican Party into the "Trump Party". The entire Republican Party has been on the way to depravation. Now, the Republicans disregard once again the fact that shootings in the United States have reached a record high and strongly oppose to gun control for their own votes, while the Democrats can do nothing about it. In fact, it's not the only matter that the Democrats can do nothing about. The Democratic Party has always been advocating rights for the women, the LGBTG, the blacks and the immigrants, treating minorities as its own vote base. However, what happened after Biden took office? The landmark Roe v. Wade decision was struck down, and "women's rights in the United States have regressed by 20 years". Rate of violent crimes against blacks in the United States has continued to rise without any sign of abating. A large number of illegal immigrants have been reported to die at the U.S. border. However, the Democratic Party can do nothing about these and the Biden Administration has tried to hide the fact that it was incompetent, unwilling to face the problems at all. Compared with the moral depravity of the Republican Party, the Democratic Party has degenerated in its ability, who cannot even defend the rights of its voters. The entire Democratic Party is just like Biden and Pelosi, getting older and withering away.

What are the American people concerned about most in the upcoming mid-term elections? The opinion polls have shown us that it's about economy, rising prices and inflation. Nevertheless, what are Democrats and Republicans arguing about? They are accusing each other of being responsible for the economic hardships, and debating over the old issues of health care, immigration, education, and gun control, swearing to settle account with one another afterwards. No one is to seriously answer the question of how to solve the economic problems. Bill Clinton used to defeat the winner of the Cold War, George H.W. Bush, by relying on "It's the economy, stupid". Now, however, the Democratic Party cannot even propose a reliable economic policy. Biden has made promise to support Ukraine every once in a while, and I wonder if he is really concerned with Ukraine or if he is taking care of his son Hunter's wallet while canvassing votes. Pelosi can only rely on a trip to Taiwan, a small island thousands of kilometers away from the United States to canvass for herself. She may not even be able to make the trip though, because the military is afraid that she will offend China too much. In fact, she has already broken an appointment with the excuse of being confirmed positive Covid-19.

Sodom and Gomorrah were exterminated by God for their unrighteousness. And the chaos and depravity of the United States, a nation self-proclaimed as the "City of God", are not much better. The extent of internal division can be surpassed perhaps only by that of the Civil War era. Compared with the Civil War era, what is more awful is that America has no Lincoln today, not even a Robert Lee. There has been an obvious decline in morality of both parties, and the integrity of most politicians is not even as good as that of a "slavery defender" more than one hundred years ago. The two-party system in the United States for more than 200 years has begun to fail. As for the separation of powers, the U.S. Congress has become a colosseum of quarrels, and the justices have turned to be puppets of struggle between the two parties. What the government can do is only to issue one failed policy after another. Politicians have been telling people that the American system is the best system in the world. But if it goes on like this, how many people will still believe this statement? The New York Times poll in early July shows that the vast majority of respondents believe that the U.S. system of government has "failed". Thus, how long can the institutional myth of the United States persist?
