我所知道,一般美国公司的职位是这样的
MTS I - 相当于加拿大的 Junior Eng (Nortel Band 4)
MTS II - 相当于加拿大的 Intermediate Eng (Nortel Band 5)
SMTS - 相当于加拿大的 Senior Eng (Nortel Band 6)
Lead Eng - 相当于加拿大的 Team Leader (Nortel Band 6)
Staff Eng - 相当与加拿大的 Architect (Nortel Band 7, IC7)
Senior Staff Eng - 相当于加拿大的　Senior Architect (Nortel Band 8)

Engineer 最高的职位是　Senior Staff Engineer, 他的老板是 Director, 已经不可能只在技术线上，而至少要负责整个项目（resources, project, s/w, h/w, sit)

在公司里面，工资是和职位挂钩的，而不是职称．
当然，职称高，容易得到高职位．
However, personally, I don't care PENG as long as I can get a desire position.
