櫻桃,Cherry,是我的死黨，一個大大眼睛的漂亮菲律賓姑娘。她總是那麼陽光，能歌善舞，還畫得一手好畫。記得有一次我做一個表格，把“please tick the box ” 中的“t ” 少寫一橫，變成了“l” ，就成了“Please lick the box” 。她笑倒，立即給我勾出一副畫，讓我伸出一個長長的大舌頭，捧着一個大紙箱子，左舔右舔。我十分氣憤，捶她，於是做成了鐵姐們。
她比我大兩個月，來自一個叫“一路一路” 的地方(Iloilo），好奇怪，好可愛的名字。她說那是一個美麗的島，在菲律賓中部。她還說菲律賓華人都是富人，老被打搶。不過她很喜歡勤勞的華人，要向我學華文。我說“好的”。她跟着說“好特。” 我說“謝謝”，她說“細細” 。我說，“我得走了”，她說“我太醜了” 。我矯正她：“得走了”。“太醜了！”
“得走了”。“太醜了！” 。。。“走了”。“丑了！” “走”。“丑！”
我暈倒，這麼不可救藥！簡直要發瘋。但看着她很無辜很認真的樣子，我又心軟了。
別以為櫻桃沒有語言天賦，她會熟練地說四門語言。除了英語，和她的母語比薩雅(Visaya) ，國語塔家嘮(Tagalog) ，她還會流利的西班牙語。我奇怪的很，哪裡學的。她說西班牙占了菲律賓３３３年，然後美國人占了５０年。我倒是對她的西班牙語發生了興趣，霧諾，道士，特來事，。。。這下好了，輪到她對我吹鬍子瞪眼睛，她大聲吼：“瓜多落，瓜落多，四，第四，是不一樣的！”我也急得眼淚都出來了，真是活該！
四年的初中生活很快就過去了，我們要去不同的地方。她哭了，這麼個整天嘻嘻哈哈的姑娘，居然哭得也很大聲。櫻桃是個虔誠的天主教徒，讓我去她的教堂，還去了一趟她的家鄉一路一路，和不遠的細布(Cebu) 島。可是最後我們還是分開了。臨走的時候，她送給我一個禮物，說可以用一輩子。打開一個精製的小本子，第一頁是她親手用花體認真滕抄的詩篇，叫做“Desiderata” 。
我不知道怎麼翻譯這個詞，意思是所想要的東西，就暫時翻成《寄望詩篇》吧。
我深深被這首詩篇感動了。這麼幾年來，我越來越感謝櫻桃送給我的這個無價之寶。每當我沮喪時，每當我疲憊時，或者崩潰絕望，或者喜悅，或者看到四川地震而淚流不止，或者看到田牛媽的苦難，甚至或者只是和布瓜拌嘴，或者僅僅是在網上的一點點不如意，我只要讀一讀這首Desiderata，我就覺得沒有什麼過不去的。我可以流淚，卻得到心靈的慰冀。
這首詩篇已經有各種文字，在全球被億萬人朗誦着。有中文，英文，德文，葡萄牙文，波蘭文等等。我最喜歡的版本還是櫻桃介紹我的Paco Stanley用西班牙文朗誦的。每次聽都是心靈的震撼。英文的版本很多，1971年的 les Crane Show也不錯。今天，我把這首《寄望詩篇》貼出來，送給大家。或許有一天，你會記起來，曾經有這麼一首詩篇。

在喧鬧而奔忙的世界中平靜地往前走
這是多麼和平，安寧！
你要與周圍的人友好相處
儘可能不要放棄這種努力和追求
你要輕輕但卻要清晰地說出自己的真實思想
並且耐心地傾聽別人含糊甚至煩人的想法
因為每個人都有自己的故事。
你要遠遠避開那些吵鬧，具有侵略性的人
他們會使你的精神苦惱。
如果你將自己與他們比，
那麼你會變得既自負又痛苦，
因為這個世界上永遠有着比你強和比你弱的人們。
你該享受你自己的成就和計劃
保持你對自己的事業的興趣
他們不管多麼細瑣和低下，都是你

在商業事務中你要小心謹慎

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others,
even to the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.

If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

En cuanto te sea posible y sin rendirte, mantén buenas relaciones con todas las personas.
Diga su verdad, calladamente y claramente, Escucha a los otros aunque sean ignorantes; cada uno de ellos tiene también su historia.
Evita a las personas ruidosas y agresivas, porque ellos molestan el espíritu.
