樱桃,Cherry,是我的死党，一个大大眼睛的漂亮菲律宾姑娘。她总是那么阳光，能歌善舞，还画得一手好画。记得有一次我做一个表格，把“please tick the box ” 中的“t ” 少写一横，变成了“l” ，就成了“Please lick the box” 。她笑倒，立即给我勾出一副画，让我伸出一个长长的大舌头，捧着一个大纸箱子，左舔右舔。我十分气愤，捶她，于是做成了铁姐们。
她比我大两个月，来自一个叫“一路一路” 的地方(Iloilo），好奇怪，好可爱的名字。她说那是一个美丽的岛，在菲律宾中部。她还说菲律宾华人都是富人，老被打抢。不过她很喜欢勤劳的华人，要向我学华文。我说“好的”。她跟着说“好特。” 我说“谢谢”，她说“细细” 。我说，“我得走了”，她说“我太丑了” 。我矫正她：“得走了”。“太丑了！”
“得走了”。“太丑了！” 。。。“走了”。“丑了！” “走”。“丑！”
我晕倒，这么不可救药！简直要发疯。但看着她很无辜很认真的样子，我又心软了。
别以为樱桃没有语言天赋，她会熟练地说四门语言。除了英语，和她的母语比萨雅(Visaya) ，国语塔家唠(Tagalog) ，她还会流利的西班牙语。我奇怪的很，哪里学的。她说西班牙占了菲律宾３３３年，然后美国人占了５０年。我倒是对她的西班牙语发生了兴趣，雾诺，道士，特来事，。。。这下好了，轮到她对我吹胡子瞪眼睛，她大声吼：“瓜多落，瓜落多，四，第四，是不一样的！”我也急得眼泪都出来了，真是活该！
四年的初中生活很快就过去了，我们要去不同的地方。她哭了，这么个整天嘻嘻哈哈的姑娘，居然哭得也很大声。樱桃是个虔诚的天主教徒，让我去她的教堂，还去了一趟她的家乡一路一路，和不远的细布(Cebu) 岛。可是最后我们还是分开了。临走的时候，她送给我一个礼物，说可以用一辈子。打开一个精制的小本子，第一页是她亲手用花体认真滕抄的诗篇，叫做“Desiderata” 。
我不知道怎么翻译这个词，意思是所想要的东西，就暂时翻成《寄望诗篇》吧。
我深深被这首诗篇感动了。这么几年来，我越来越感谢樱桃送给我的这个无价之宝。每当我沮丧时，每当我疲惫时，或者崩溃绝望，或者喜悦，或者看到四川地震而泪流不止，或者看到田牛妈的苦难，甚至或者只是和布瓜拌嘴，或者仅仅是在网上的一点点不如意，我只要读一读这首Desiderata，我就觉得没有什么过不去的。我可以流泪，却得到心灵的慰冀。
这首诗篇已经有各种文字，在全球被亿万人朗诵着。有中文，英文，德文，葡萄牙文，波兰文等等。我最喜欢的版本还是樱桃介绍我的Paco Stanley用西班牙文朗诵的。每次听都是心灵的震撼。英文的版本很多，1971年的 les Crane Show也不错。今天，我把这首《寄望诗篇》贴出来，送给大家。或许有一天，你会记起来，曾经有这么一首诗篇。

在喧闹而奔忙的世界中平静地往前走
这是多么和平，安宁！
你要与周围的人友好相处
尽可能不要放弃这种努力和追求
你要轻轻但却要清晰地说出自己的真实思想
并且耐心地倾听别人含糊甚至烦人的想法
因为每个人都有自己的故事。
你要远远避开那些吵闹，具有侵略性的人
他们会使你的精神苦恼。
如果你将自己与他们比，
那么你会变得既自负又痛苦，
因为这个世界上永远有着比你强和比你弱的人们。

As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

En cuanto te sea posible y sin rendirte, mantén buenas relaciones con todas las personas.
Diga su verdad, calladamente y claramente, Escucha a los otros aunque sean ignorantes; cada uno de ellos tiene también su historia.
Evita a las personas ruidosas y agresivas, porque ellos molestan el espíritu.
