歌聲悠悠傳來，把人的思緒一下子帶到了遙遠的年代：灰色的背景中猶如上演着一部老式黑白電影。朦朧的人群，陰鬱的天空似二戰電影中某個生離死別的場景---車輪滾滾，火車在隆隆聲中逐漸遠去，留下站台上傷心欲絕的情人。實際上，"藍雨衣"是Cohen寫給一位朋友(兼奪走自己妻子的情敵)的信，是一場男人之間的對話和感情交流。信中語句大致反映出一段發生在3個好友之間的感情故事。
很奇怪這首歌竟然都由女歌手來演唱。Jennifer Warnes和Joan Baez都將最後的署名唱成"Sincerely， a friend"，而Tori Amos則直接署名"Sincerely， L.Cohen"以示對Cohen的尊重。Tori Amos通過自己獨特的嗓音以及鋼琴伴奏，最完美地表達了Cohen的情感。(當然，其中肯定傾注了她自己的經歷和感受。) 一貫的低吟淺唱加上跌宕起伏的琴音，Tori Amos將一段深藏以久的往事娓娓道來，歌中透出的情與仇，愛與恨，傷心和歡樂，無奈與堅持，過去和現在，一切的情結都好似一場濃得化不開的霧，令人深深陷入其中。在深夜靜心聆聽，心緒滌盪難以自抑……
