Apparently the author has much to learn about the correct relationship between science and faith. Science in the lens of atheistic view will never help us to truly understand the cosmos as deeply and completely as the Christian theistic view. I suggest that anyone interested in this subject pick up relevant books written by Dr. John Polkinghorne (a physicist and Templeton prize-winning theologian) and many others. All truths must be God's truth. Any enduring truth in the natural/materialistic arena as uncovered by science will appropriately find its place in the treasure trove of God's truth, even if we cannot mesh them in apparent harmony at the time being.

I find people who are violently atheistic the most unscientific in their blindness to the limitations of science and unreasonable refusal to be open-minded about the possibility of supernatural revelation. They do not have a true understanding about the power and limitation of science. There are three fundamental limitations of science.

First, science has to resort to materialistic means to probe the material universe. Such probing comes with a price per the Uncertainty Principle, giving us a fuzzy quantum picture of our cosmos. Besides, science is powerless in any supernatural arena. An ordinary folk's guess can be just as good (or bad) as any great scientist's on non-science subjects.

Second, science has to resort to logical discourse to analyze and reason. But such rationality is deeply rooted in faith, at least the faith in logic, not to mention the many presuppositions that must be present in any logical discourse. Godel's incompleteness theorem smashes the self-righteousness attitude of many ignorant scientists about their logical discourse. One cannot prove his points without either assuming the correctness of the presuppositions inherent in the discourse or resorting to an outside system for proof, which begs for another proof from without, and again for yet another, the cycle of proof goes on and on.

Third, science cannot tell us the ultimate reason for the existence of cosmos and humanity. In other words, science is quiet about our ultimate concern.

That is laughable and untenable logic. The more one knows the mystery of the cosmos, the more he ought to know the powerlessness of science in answering our spiritual questions such as the true ultimate reason for the existence of the cosmos and mankind. Ask, for example, Prof. Brian Green who recently authored a national bestseller entitled "The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time, and the Texture of Reality". The greatest scientists are clueless about the deepest mystery of the cosmos! They will remain so as long as they reject supernational revelations.

In fact, it is precisely due to our finite and limited predictive power in cosmic affairs that the Almighty God is amply able to demonstrate the vindicating power, beyond any shadow of doubt, to prove that he alone is the author and finisher who knows the past, present and future of our cosmos.

That is the author's ignorance. Our ignorance should never enter into our conclusion that demands a better knowledge. See de Duve and Lederberg's remarks below when interviewed by Science staff in 1997. Years ago I also learned about a Maryland biologist who is a Nobel laureate and a preaching elder in his church.

(1) Albert Einstein (1879-1955, 1921 Nobel Laureate, One of a Kind Physicist, Time Magazine's Scientist of the 20th Century):

The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is at all comprehensible.

Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.

The scientist is possessed by the sense of universal causation ... His religious feelings takes the ???? of a rapturous amazement at the harmony of natural law, which reveals an intelligence of such superiority that, compared with it, all the systematic thinking and acting of human beings is an utterly insignificant reflection.

(2)Stephen Hawking (1942-present, Physicist, Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambrige University):

The laws of science, as we know them at present, contain many fundamental numbers, like the size of the electric charge of the electron and ratio of the masses of the proton and the electron....The remarkable fact is that the values of these numbers seem to have been very finely adjusted to make possible the development of life.

(3) Sir Fred Hoyle (1915-2001, World-Renowned Astronomer, Plumian Professor of Astronomy at Cambridge University ):

A common sense interpretation of the facts suggests that a superintellect has monkeyed with physics, as well as chemistry and biology, and that there are no blind forces worth speaking about in nature. The numbers one calculates from the facts seem to me so overwhelming as to put this conclusion almost beyond question.

Fred Hoyle (with Chandra Wickramasinghe):

Odds that all the functional proteins necessary for life might ???? in one place by random chance is 1 in 10 to 40,000th power.

(4) John O'Keefe (Astronomer at NASA):

We are, by astronomical standards, a pampered, cosseted, cherished group of creatures... If the Universe had not been made the most exacting precision we could never have come into existence. It is my view that these circumstances indicate that the Universe was created for man to live in.

(5) Robert Jastrow (Astronomer and Physicist, Founding Director of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, Director of the Mount Wilson Institute and Hale Solar Laboratory, Author of God and the Astronomer):

For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream. He has scaled the mountains of ignorance; he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries.

(6) Paul Davies (Professor of Natural Philosophy at Australian Centre for Astrobiology at Macquarie University, Prolific author, among his better-known works are God and the New Physics, The Cosmic Blueprint, The Mind of God, The Last Three Minutes, About Time and Are We Alone? How to Build a Time Machine):

Roger Penrose has computed the odds against the observed universe appearing by accident to be 10^(10^30) to one.

(7) Freeman Dyson (Physicist and Mathematician at Harvard University, President of Space Studies Institute):

The more I examine the universe and the details of its architecture, the more evidence I find that the universe in some sense must have known we were coming.

(8) Lawrence M. Krauss & Glenn D. Starkman (Both Physicists at Case Western Reserve University):

Billions of years ago the universe was too hot for life to exist. Countless eons hence, it will become so cold and empty that life, no matter how ingenious, will perish.

(9) Francis Collins (Geneticist, Director of the National Human Genome Research Institute at the National Institutes of Health):

When something new is revealed about the human genome, I experience a feeling of awe at the realization that now humanity knows something only God knew before. It is a deeply moving sensation that helps me appreciate the spiritual side of life, and also makes the practice of science more rewarding. A lot of scientist really don't know what they are missing by not exploring their spiritual feeling. (quoted as saying in Science, vol. 277, p.890, Aug.15 1997)

(10) Christian de Duve (Molecular Biologist, 1974 Nobel Laureate):

Many of my scientist friends are violently atheist, but there is no sense in which atheism is enforced or established by science. Disbelief is just one of many possible personal views. (quoted as saying in Science, vol. 277, p.890, Aug.15 1997)

(11) Joshua Lederberg (Evolutionary Biologist at Rockefeller University, 1958 Nobel Laureate):

Nothing so far disproves the divine. What is incontrovertible is that a religious impulse guides our motive in sustaining scientific inquiry. Beyond that it is all speculation. (quoted as saying in Science, vol. 277, p.890, Aug.15 1997)

(12) Charles Townes (Laser Inventor, 1964 Nobel Laureate, f0rmer provost of MIT):

Science wants to know the mechanism of the universe, religion the meaning. The two cannot be separated. (quoted as saying in Science, vol. 277, p.890, Aug.15 1997)
