Some may consider Christianity as 愚昧 but it is truly 大智若愚.
God uses foolishness to shame those who think that they are wise. (1 Corinthians 1:27-29) Consider the Jews who waited for many hundreds years for their messiah, the promised King of the Jews. When he came, some of them acknowledged him as the messiah and became his disciples. However some of the Jews thought that when the messiah appeared, he will lead them to conquer the earthly kingdoms like King David did, by physical swords and blood shed. And the so call wise Jews- the Pharisee, Seducees, the high priests and the congregation had causes Jesus Christ (Christ, the One anointed with the Holy Spirit and Power- Acts 10:38-39, also refer Mark 14:61-62,) to be nailed on the cross (for the high priests it was unbelievable that the Messiah will come to threaten their career as the high priests, and the ‘weapon’ that these high priests used were – “that Jesus had blasphemy God” –Mark 14:64). As for the Jewish congregation, their King should be at least someone with great huge fleet of armies, a King wearing the glorious crown, riding on the horse with unbeatable super weapons and power!!...but Jesus was not!, so then they would rather threaten and started riot (Matthew 27:24) so to force Pilate to release Barabbas the murderer (Mark 15:7) instead of Jesus the innocent man [whom the ‘wise’ Governor thought as the innocent one that the congregation would request to release! Yet it turned out the other way round! (Mark 15:9-11)] For the ‘wise Jews’ like Peter the disciple of Jesus, he can never imagine ‘a King would die on the cross’(dead penalty - crucify the prisoner on the cross was common at the time of Romans Empire) - so shameful, ugly and torturing –it was utterly unacceptable!! Yes, Peter thought he was‘wise’to say that his master should never suffered and died in the hands of the hypocrites and hence even rebuked Jesus for the ‘vision’ of the cross. However Lord Jesus Christ immediately turned and said to Peter (seriously): Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me...!! (Matthew 16:22-23) And the ‘hard request’ of Jesus to his disciples (all the Christians) is that any one who wish to follow him got to carry their own cross!! (Matthew 10:38) Common! No pain no gain! There is no free lunch in the world, but you will certainly reap what you sow!
Knowledge puffs up! (1 Corinthians 8:1) and pride force the way back to father of rebellion, Satan the fallen-angel! Also, where there is knowledge, love passes away. (1 Corinthians 13:8) and without love, you are just a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:3) But the wisdom from above is first of all pure; then …good fruit... (James 3:17) (One of) the gift of the Holy Spirit – discerning power (1 Corinthians 12:10 NIV – distinguishing between spirits): so that you may differentiate good and evil, then you may cling on to good and to get rid of the evil. So that you may prosper and be called blessed! Love must be sincere that is we got to hate the evil and cling on the good, but before that you need to differentiate good and evil first! Lean not to your own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5) Human commands and teachings destined to perish with use, are indeed inferior (Colossians 2:21-22) if compared to the wisdom from above. But seeks ye first the kingdom of God and also His righteousness and all your needs will be given to you! (Matthew 6:33) The disciples of Jesus might be without schooling, not trained, yet they spoke with authority and with sound judgment. Later people realized that the disciples were with Jesus (who is indeed the greatest Teacher) Saul (Paul) was well trained Jewish lawyer, knowledgeable and experience, yet he had initially made serious mistake – as he persecuted churches and killed Christians, yet he thought he was doing the right things for his superior the high priests, and he thought he had been offering his best service for God – he was zealous for God as he thought (Acts 22:2-5), until one day Lord Jesus Christ came to visit him (Acts 22:8) Example of persuasive evident, Christianity as 大智若愚: Compare City of Christianity like London (majority are Christians) and another non-Christianity city – Nepal. Say you are a high school student from Malaysia and been granted scholarship (full coverage of all the cost) to go to oversea for further study and is to choose either an university at London or an university at Nepal. As for most of us, most likely we will choose London who is truly reputable with her academic and research.
Bye and God bless! |
