[kjv] And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.
[bbe] And there was an argument between the keepers of Abram's cattle and the keepers of Lot's cattle: at that time the Canaanites and Perizzites were still living in the land.

13:9 [hgb] 遍地不都在你眼前麼．請你離開我、你向左、我就向右、你向右、我就向左。

[kjv] Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.
[bbe] Is not all the land before you? then let us go our separate ways: if you go to the left, I will go to the right; or if you take the right, I will go to the left.

家庭糾紛最難化解，亞伯蘭立下了一個怎樣的榜樣?
13:5-9 亞伯蘭面對與侄兒羅得可能發生的衝突，採取主動去解決這一場紛爭。他雖然年長，有選擇的優先權，卻讓羅得先選，即使會吃虧，也不在乎。亞伯蘭的榜樣教導我們如何處理家庭糾紛：（1）採取主動去化解衝突；（2）即使會吃虧，也先滿足別人的要求；（3）把家庭和睦放在個人慾望之上。
若人與人之間出現爭執與紛爭時，我會怎樣面對？
13:7-8 亞伯蘭的牧人和羅得的牧人周圍都有許多對他們懷有敵意的人，他們本應團結一致才是。可惜，他們竟讓小小的嫉妒分裂了。今天也會有同樣情況，撒但在基督徒周圍動工，使之發生爭執。
在信徒之間的競爭、爭論、不和，會造成三方面的損害：（1）損毀人類美好關係的基礎──友好、信任、和睦；（2）阻礙人朝重要目標前進；（3）使人以自我為中心，不以愛為中心。耶穌明白爭執在弟兄中間的破壞性，所以他在被出賣被捆綁之前的最後禱告中，為信徒祈求合一（參約17:21）。
人作選擇會以眼前看為最好的作決定。我的選擇標準……
13:10-11 從羅得的選擇中我們可看出他的性格。他揀選那地最好的部分，儘管這意味著他住得靠近因罪惡而聲名狼藉的所多瑪。他貪婪，只想自己得到最好的，不考慮叔父亞伯蘭的需要和公平的問題。人生充滿了選擇，我們也可以揀選最好的東西，而不理會別人的感受和需要。不過這樣會產生許多問題，羅得的一生就是明顯的例子。由此可以看到，我們若不照著神的指示來選擇，就只會作出錯誤的決定。
世俗事情可以毀滅信心，但人又不可以離世獨立，如何可以建立謹守而不隨流的生活？
13:12 羅得首先挑選美好的草場和充足的水源，這似乎是明智的，但他沒有看到邪惡的所多瑪會帶來試探，且足以毀滅他的家庭。你有沒有選擇住在“所多瑪”，或者在那裡工作？即使你以為自己意志堅強，能夠抵抗試探，但你的家人卻未必可以。若神吩咐我們去接觸“所多瑪”之人時，我們就必須謹守，不要與他們同流合污。

觀察與評論：
亞伯蘭與羅得分離（13：1－13）
1. 亞伯蘭及其家人（包括撒萊和羅得）從埃及回到了應許之地
（13：1）。神不念亞伯蘭的欺騙，依然賜給他物質上的豐富
──“亞伯蘭的金、銀、牲畜極多”（13：2）。
亞伯蘭在伯特利和艾之間安營紮寨，就是起先築壇求告
神的地方。回到應許之地後，亞伯蘭一家又恢復了向耶和華
的主動敬拜（13：3－4）。
2. 羅得與亞伯蘭一同興盛起來（牛群、羊群、帳棚）（13：5），
然而那地不能同時容納他們（13：6），可能是因為那裡的迦
南人和比利洗人（13：7）。羅得的牧人和亞伯蘭的牧人因餵
飲牲畜開始爭吵（爭權利）（13：7）。
3. 意味深長的是，是亞伯蘭，而不是羅得，作出決定：和平比
（放牲畜的）權利更重要（13：8）。這是一個憑信心而行的
人，甘心把首選權讓給羅得，讓他先挑到哪裡安居（13：9）。
類似的時候，我們會很自然地希望首先選擇。在這時羅得抓
住了好機會。他如常人一樣，是憑眼見而不是憑信心而行，
因他的選擇是按着他肉眼所見而作的（見林後5：7，4：18；
來11：10－11）。
4. 羅得“舉目觀看”，為自己作了選擇──按肉眼所能看見
的表面現象。約旦河全平原滋潤的土地顯然是人自然的選擇
（13：10－11），然而這種看似正確的選擇將使亞伯蘭年青
的侄子羅得陷入麻煩之中。13：10敲響了警鐘：提到所多瑪
和蛾摩拉沉溺在暫時享樂的罪中（見創19）。
5. 然而分開是很重要的，因為只有亞伯蘭“離開”本家本族，
神才能確立與亞伯蘭的約。這是一個先決條件，亞伯蘭現在
已經達到了──“他們就彼此分離了”（13：11）。
6. 亞伯蘭住在約旦河西岸的迦南地，羅得則漸漸地挪移帳棚，
一直搬到所多瑪（13：13）。雖然所多瑪的確切位置不能清
楚確定，但瑣珥的位置基本可以斷定是在鹽海（死海）南端
西訂谷附近，靠近馬撒達。當時那地豐饒榮美每如樂園（13：
10），然而外表可以欺騙人，如13節所說：
“所多瑪人在耶和華面前罪大惡極”（13：13）。
羅得的選擇現在使他深受罪惡的影響──他離他們太近了！
今天，死海南端周圍已成不毛之地。
*中文版註：死海南端的西訂谷是指東岸半島以南的那部
分；這部分比半島以北的那部分淺多了，地理上可以證明它
在主前兩千年左右，就是亞伯蘭的時候，經歷了一次巨大的
地理變化，從本來在地上，降到水下。所多瑪和蛾摩拉遺址
可能就在這水下。當西訂谷還在地上的時候，曾有示拿地的
四王來此攻打所多瑪等城的五王，（見創14：1－3）。聖經
說“那裡有許多石漆坑”（創14：10），如今。在死海南端
還可以看見飄浮的柏油團。馬撒達是死海西岸的一個城堡，
基本上是正對着在東岸的半島。*
