我要進城 I want to go to the city,
人人都在城裡面 for everyone is living there,
我不要獨自在曠野 and I shall not dwell in the desert.

他們說拿你所有的一切交換吧 The citizens had me empty my all to enter.
我打開口袋 I opened my bag
把丁香花和馬鈴薯一起出售 and sold lilacs and potatoes.
城門大開的時候 When the city gate was wide open,
哥哥你哭了 you were crying, my darling.
我一定要去 But I have to go there.
我付出一切 不能不走 I have paid up my all for it and cannot stay put.

城裡一無所有 the city possesses nothing,
沒有不能朽壞的宮殿 no incorruptible temple,
沒有能長出飛鳥的樹 no trees that nestle birds.
除了我狂熱的想象 Except my fanatic whimsy
