路加福音9：23－26： “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, and but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it. For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory, and the glory of the Father and of
the Holy Spirit.”(NASV)

V23說，要舍己天天背起十字架來跟從耶酥。所以背十字架簡單講就是舍己的道路。主耶酥為了順服神，舍己。同樣，我們為了追隨耶酥，為了順服神，也要舍己。

後面三節經文具體解釋了背十字架的內容，解釋了我們要舍什麼，要追求什麼。從結構上講，三個FOR作為標誌。把這三個選擇體現在意，口，行中，就是背十字架。
V24,Worldly goal or heavenly purpose.
V25, Worldly gain or heavenly profit.
V26, Worldly glory or heavenly praise.

總之，就是“你們要思念上面的事，不要思念地上的事。因為你們已經死了，你們的生命與基督一同藏在神裡面。基督是我們的生命，他顯現的時候，你們也要與他一同顯現在榮耀里。”（歌羅西書3：2－4）
