Retreat center is never a good place to test spirituality. When so many people are around, even a hypocrite will behave very well, perhaps better than usual. When evil and temptation is real and visible, like in the case of Ashley Smith who witnessed to the cop and judge killer last Sunday morning, a person's glory of spirituality will shine through. Even a devil would confess she was an angel sent by God. This is my suggested tests of spirituality: (1) Testing ground at home: what would your spouse and children say about your character and spirituality? Are you a practicing follower of Christ in the littlest things observed by your loved ones? (2) Testing ground at workplace: what would your colleagues say about your character and spirituality? Are you a peacemaker and a team player who rarely places your own above others? (3) Testing ground at church: what would your coworkers say about your character and spirituality? How do you handle conflict and adversity. (4) Testing ground when you are away from home: what would Jesus say about your character and spirituality? Are you tempted to sin? Are you yielding to sin more often than not? (5) Testing ground at hospital: what would your doctors and nurses say about your character and spirituality? Are you cheerful and hopeful as a blessed child of God? Are you a comforter to others more than being comforted by your friends. (6) Testing ground when facing murder: what would your killers say about your character and spirituality? Remember Rachel Scott who affirmed her faith in Christ before she was shot to death? Is rainbow forum is a good testing ground? I do not think so due to the annonymous nature. |
