Richard Marx是芝加哥人，1963年出生。他的經典之作是“Right Here Waiting”，大家耳熟能詳。“Hazard”這首歌是他在巡迴演出路過Nebraska一個叫做Hazard的小鎮時偶發靈感創作的，收錄在他1991年出版的“Rush Street”里，之後，又出了MTV。他沒想到的是，Hazard這個只有78人的小鎮，因他一曲而成名，成了Marx飯(fan)的必游之地。

有趣的是，Hazard的確有個姑娘叫Mary，而且只有這一個Mary，但是她並沒有失蹤過。也只有那麼一條小河，名為“Beaver Creek”，照片上看很窄且淺，估計淹不死人，呵呵。唯一的老警官是James O. Kugler，1999年記者採訪他的時候，他說不記得有過Richard Marx這個嫌疑犯，也沒聽說Mary被謀殺的事兒，哈哈。原來，他沒聽過這首歌。

Hazard鎮上的居民大多是年長的農夫。當“Hazard”剛紅不久，有好事之徒問他們所謂的“Richard Marx Scandal"，看看他們讓人噴飯的回答吧：

— "was that the guy who lived in the [north] lot? worked for Arnold for a while I think. What ever happened to him?"

— "Marx scandal? I dunno, was he part of that Monica Lewinski thing?"

— "this Grandma thinks he’s cute, not Garth cute, but cute!"

— "he’s probably an L.A. or New York boy. If I were him, I’d be dreaming my way out of his town."

— "oh, heh, oh, that singer right? I heard he stopped here, guess we should have taken him fishing."
