一肩长发，满眼清醇地在小酒吧浅吟低唱城市民谣。国王和士兵，暗恋着楼上男人的女孩，凝望着窗外的晚餐。Susanne Vega象是点出了纽约清新而茫然的一刻，她的情绪总是那么清澈，最多起一层雾，嗓音也总是那么淡淡的，有一点丽，象一抹烟翠。
她的音乐是顺耳顺心，一路流淌下来。八年前初听到Tom's Dinner，也叫我淡淡地吃了一惊，从此不能忘记这个名字。昨天买了她的一张专集， Tried and True,配器加了些电子味，然而如一条小溪，还是八年前一样流着，可是对一个诚实的歌者来说，还有什么是必需的呢？Susanne， 通常是歌里被吟唱着的那个邻家女孩芳名。

如果说Susanne Vega是纽约的清晨，Sheryl Crow可能是纽约的黄昏至午夜。她的歌有沧桑和讽刺，但依然保有叛逃的精力，反抗的冲动。旋律又有力又美，每次听她的RRUN，BABY RUN，都恨不得发足狂奔，无边际地跑下去，阿甘式地跑下去。

黑人歌手的印象总是一张大嘴巴，Tracy Trampman带着鼻音的哼唱告诉我在炫技，贫民文化的RAP，煽情的爵士之外底层人生的故事。她的歌是特别坚实的，一首《我有辆快车》，我搞了辆快车，我们逃走吧，我的父亲在喝酒，他什么也不做，我们会有新的生活；我有辆快车，我找到了工作，可是你在喝酒，你什么也不做；我有辆快车，我升职了，你总在喝酒，我总有忍不下去的那天，我要走了，去新的生活。
感觉和那个《紫色》很象，都关心着贫民黑人女性的命运，人们把她们总结为弱势群体，人类的苦难很大程度由她们来体现，这方面的同情和关注永远不会供过于求。

有的时候一回头，或者做一个简单的动作，或者闻到一股气味，我会感觉到自己猛然间被拽到过去的某个时刻，还不等细细品味，已经回来了……于是怅怅然若有所失……我想，我们喜欢老歌就是这个原因吧……
