如果你在休斯囤local開車，車輛稀少，藍天白雲，綠草如茵，Sprinkler system繼續給草地灌水，完全是一個悠閒的假日下午。但是當你到達任何一個與主幹線交叉的路口時，可以立即感受到肅殺的氣氛。支路這邊放綠燈時，主路上的車甚至不肯讓開，表現出人們焦慮的心情。都說米國的月亮比別人圓，但是這兩天晚上，雖然是皓月當空，卻給人一種說不出的異樣的感覺，似乎月亮也是雲鬢半偏，花冠不整，周圍則是一片愁雲慘澹。

今天上午比較兇險，各條高速路上，人們有的已經等待了10小時以上，不敢開空調（可以多耗一陣）。城管部門竭盡全力打開所有可能的道口，還運來一些緊急汽油，拉那些眼看要拋錨的兄弟一把。我們這個集團，因為有一個baby，不敢質然上路，今天氣溫100度，如果汽油耗盡拋錨在路上，還不如呆在家裡Take the chance。一個哥們打電話來說：他們凌晨出發，在US-290上開了14.5小時，前進了54英里，用了半箱油，是一輛Toyota Camery。問他何以能堅持如此之長？他說：嘿嘿，關了發動機，掛空檔，推了一陣。這“一陣”有多長，不得而知。

到了下午，電腦Model顯示：麗塔小姐將會向右轉一點，以她的左胳膊掃過休斯囤。如果是真的，大休斯敦地區的壓力將會大大緩解。由於這個消息，到傍晚時，交通也相對緩解了。路邊社決定暫不撤離，明天再看，明天早上的電腦Model顯示的，基本就是最後結果了。

下面是本社記者今晨採訪Galveston的一個騎車老頭。

記者：Hey, man! What are you doing here?
老頭：What do you think I’m doing? I’m riding a bicycle!
記者：What are you riding a bike for? You should leave the town!
老頭：What the hell do you think I’m riding for! I’m exercising for a longer life!
記者：Longer life? You life will be ended in two days! Don’t you know that Miss Rita’s coming?
老頭：Who the hell is Miss Rita? And what the hell she’s doing with me?
記者：Miss Rita is rated XXXX!
老頭：Oh, get out of here! Who the hell cares? I am too old for a show girl!
記者：我是西爾維斯！She is a hurricane to blow your head off, just like the one of 1900!
老頭：媽呀！I need to get out of here.
記者：I tell you what. Get out of here. I mean now!
老頭：How? By a bike? I don’t have a car.
記者：Ok, you stay with me.

真事，有相當不少的人不看電視也不聽廣播，據信Galveston現在仍有數千人，警方正在挨家搜索並提供車輛。下面是本社記者在Galveston 監獄的見聞（Who the hell decided to put a jail over there?）。

獄卒：Hey, man，come out. We need to get you out of here.
犯人：What? You mean I’m released?
獄卒：Ya right, you’re free to go. And you’re going to meet Miss Rita who’s rated XXXX!
犯人：你是西爾維斯嗎？I haven’t see a nice girl for a while! But they told me I will be on trial next week.
獄卒：Miss Rita says you don’t need a trial any more. You will go to hell directly!
犯人：Objection! I know my right! I need to call my lawyer first!
獄卒：我是奇丁。We’re sending you to another jail because Hurricane Rita is coming. But if you try anything stupid, I’m going to blow you head off before Rita gets you.
犯人：Got it. But how about Miss Rita?
獄卒：Are you nuts? Miss Rita is Hurricane Rita, Hurricane Rita is Miss Rita, got it?
犯人：Oh, man! Let her hit me!

也是真事，因為警方認為犯人們在Galveston，已經Have nothing to do。

但是如果麗塔小姐向右轉得太多，又要轉到扭奧良去了，那裡的哥們可再受不起第二次打擊了。當然明天早上麗塔小姐也許會認為左邊生意更好一點。最理想的是麗塔小姐從休斯囤和扭奧良之間穿過，這樣損失會降低一個數量級。當然是沒有麗塔小姐最好了，我們把麗塔小姐送給老鹹菜吧。
