We looked at our score with 2 rounds to go and found we had a 57%ish game.
Since we had an average in the afternoon session, we were not in danger of not
qualifying.
It turned out, Deas and Cheek, with the last disaster board, missed the cut
and took an early exit.
As we thought that due to the last hand, there was no way our percentage would
drop, the director called our attention and they've made the decision on board
3.

The director ruled that my alert of the 2S was unauthorized information, which
made it more attractive for Fred to correct to the 3S. So the contract was
changed to 3H doubled. In 3H doubled, it was determined that the most likely
result was down 1. So the score was adjusted from -100 to -200.
This was a major blow as -200 was always disastrous, especially when NS was
cold for +120. It turned out -200 was only worth 3.5/51.
The director advised us we had the right to appeal but we forfeited the right.
The director also notified us the procedural penalty issued on board 27. Man,
being deprived of some hard earned matchpoints was surely not a great feeling,
even, when I think about it, we really deserved that.
As I thought about the ruling, I found it makes no sense. Not in that if Fred
passed, I would try another 3S; rather, everyone missed the point, and we
should get a worse score -- although not by much.
The damage was not solely done by the unauthorized information, the biggest
damage was from my mis-information. Suppose I correctly informed oppo that 2S
was a transfer to C, and then I bid 3D, what would the North bid? Pass, of
course. So it seemed to me that the contract should change to 3D by E. Down 4
or 5, which is non-material.
