雅典奧運會游泳項目第五日將決出四塊金牌：男子200米蛙泳，女子200米蝶泳，男子100米自由泳，女子4x200米自由泳接力。

（一）男子200米蛙泳
In a classic head to head encounter, Japan’s Kosuke KITAJIMA will clash with Brendan HANSEN (USA) in the much-awaited final of the Men’s 200m Breaststroke. HANSEN stole the world record for this event from KITAJIMA during the US Olympic trials in July 2004, only to see the Japanese champion take the gold medal in the Men’s 100m Breaststroke on Sunday night. As these two watch each other, a challenge may come from the fastest swimmer of the semifinals, Hungarian Daniel GYURTA (2:10.75), or the fourth fastest Paolo BOSSINI. (2:11.76). HANSEN (2:10.81) and KITAJIMA (2:10.86) qualified second and third fastest.

在15日進行的男子100米蛙泳決賽中，北島康介以1分0秒08的成績擊敗漢森，重奪“蛙王”頭銜。怎料，漢森的同胞兼隊友佩爾索替他打抱不平，指責北島康介玩貓膩，贏得不光彩。佩爾索說：“北島在出發時違反規定地採用了海豚式打水，因此將金牌拿到手。”另一名美國選手萊扎克也指責北島康介比賽中違規，這令北島康介非常無奈，他說：“我真不明白這些美國人為什麼會這麼說，他們的質疑讓我有點生氣。”為堵住美國人的嘴，北島發話，希望裁判們能在男子200米蛙泳比賽中更仔細地審查他的技術動作。

（二）女子200米蝶泳
Australian Petria THOMAS came to Athens having never won an individual gold medal, a statistic she changed on Sunday night when she came home first in the Women's 100m Butterfly. On day five she will be looking for a second medal, this time in the Women’s 200m Butterfly, when she goes up against world record holder Otylia JEDRZEJCZAK (POL), who she beat in the 100m event, and American Kaitlin SANDENO (USA). SANDENO posted the fastest semifinal time of 2:08.77.

（三）男子100米自由泳
Reigning Olympic Champion Pieter van den HOOGENBAND (NED) clocked 48.55 in the semis, but this was not enough to beat South African Roland SCHOEMAN (48.39). SCHOEMAN was part of South Africa's victorious 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay team on Monday, and has posted the equal fastest time of the year of 48.17, a time he achieved in the Athens pool. Australian Ian THORPE qualified in eighth place for the final, narrowly beating out the 33-year-out sprint legend and sentimental favourite, Alexander POPOV (RUS).

在連續三屆奧運會無緣男子百米自由泳金牌之後，美國的克洛克和雷扎克居然被擋在了半決賽的門外。預賽之後，美國的頭號選手傑森-雷扎克僅僅名列第21位，而伊恩-克洛克則恰好排在並列第17位，與半決賽擦肩而過。在現代奧林匹克運動會的歷史上，美國隊堪稱是男子100米自由泳的絕對霸主，他們只有兩次沒有出現在百米決賽的賽場上，一次是1896年，另外一次是1980年，美國抵制了莫斯科奧運會。他們在該項目上總共獲得了11枚金牌。

波波夫是俄羅斯代表團本屆奧運會的旗手，在1992年的巴塞羅那和1996年的亞特蘭大，波波夫是男子50米、100米自由泳4枚金牌得主，然而在雅典，這位老將無緣百米泳池大戰的決賽，真是遺憾。

從4x100米自由泳接力決賽來看，霍根班德是最大熱門。他如果游出那天的水平（46秒79），金牌絕對是他的。

（四）女子4x200米自由泳接力
這是中國代表團計劃中爭獎牌的項目，現在看來難度不小。美國隊實力最強。從已賽過的4x100米自由泳接力和200米自由泳來看，楊雨的狀態很差，徐妍瑋的狀態一般，龐佳穎則發揮不穩定。衷心希望她們能振作起來，拼下一塊獎牌。中國隊加油！
