我年底畢業，從八月份起發簡歷，目前已經interview了幾個學校(phone&campus).
不久前剛那了個offer.

這個版上談找學術工作的不多，在目前工業界不景氣的情況下， 我把我的經歷寫出來，
希望對大家有所幫助。

我：
三流大學的Ph. D.(US News 無排名), 專業:EE， 方向:Machine Intelligence,
Jounral Paper(Including under view): 4,
Book and book chapters(Including under preparation: 2),
Conf Paper: several
口語還行，熱愛教書工作。沒有TA experience, 但出國前在學校待過倆年。

目前Offer:
三流大學的CS系(Can grant Ph. D degree). 75k/9month + 2 year summer
support + 150k start up package.
Location: Mid-west

學校工作的好處:
1. H1 Visa 不受配額限制。
2. 穩定 2-3 years first contract, in general, NO laid off.
3. Benifit is good: 401k co-pay is very nice: you pay 0%-5%, University pay
10%-15%.
4. Fast Green Card.

缺點：
1. Salary is not as high as in industry.
2. the working experience may not be useful if you want to
join industry later.
3. After two years, you have to teach in summer or get grants. Otherwise you
will not be paid in summer.

About tenure:
應該不是太難(指三流學校)。

從我面試和廣告的情況看，目前各校CS系都在擴張(主要原因是生源廣，政府支持)。急需
Faculty。從目前情況看， 在industry不景氣的情況下，各位如果喜歡教書，不妨一試。

FAQ in interview:

1. What can you teach?
2. How about your research?
3. Where can you get the funding?
4. one-hour seminar
5. why do you want to choose academic career?

Interview procedure(one day):

1. breakfast
2. talk with facutly
4. talk with dean
5. lunch
6. talk with students
7. seminar
8. dinner.

Final comments:
if you do not graduate from Top university, good papers on
good journals are the most important thing.
And if you do not like working with students, do not try.
