中诗英译【诗经. 国风. 四牡】   

1. 四牡騑騑，周道倭迟。岂不怀归? 王事靡盬, 我心伤悲。

2. 四牡騑騑，啴啴骆马。岂不怀归？王事靡盬，不遑启处。

3. 翩翩者鵻，载飞载下，集于苞栩。王事靡盬，不遑将父。

4. 翩翩者鵻，载飞载止，集于苞杞。王事靡盬，不遑将母。

5. 驾彼四骆，载骤骎骎。岂不怀归？是用作歌，将母来谂。          

                  Four Stallions.         

1. Four stallions kept on galloping, albeit tired, 

    with the state avenues winding and long; 

    who as a soldier does not cherish a home-sick song ?

    Only endless king's errands are of us required; 

    I feel so sad, as if arrows through my heart were fired!          

2. Four stallions kept on galloping, albeit tired; 

    these black-maned white horses never stop fighting for breath.

    Who, as a soldier, does not cherish a home-sick song?  

    Only endless king's errands are of us required. 

    So by no means can a peaceful  residence be acquired!          

3. Behold those turtle-doves, easy manner and feathers shining! 

    Up and down, they are freely flying.

    For a break, they can flock onto the oak trees, thick and green. 

    Only endless king's errands are of us required.

    So, by no means, can we have the time to serve our fathers!          

4. Behold those turtle-doves, easy mannered and feathers shining! 

    Up and down they are freely flying.

    For a break, they can flock onto the wolfberry bushes, thick and green.

    Only endless king's errands are of us required. 

    So, by no means can we have  the time to serve our mothers.          

5. Let's ride our four black-maned stallions, 

    give them a spur and let them run steadfastly!

    Who, as a soldier, does not cherish a home sick song? 

    All I can do is to compose these verses, and as such,

    I say how much I missed my Mom!
