Are there less earthquakes now?
Experts have warned about earthquakes in the west coast for a long time. They say that a major earthquake is long overdue. We have waited in anxiety for several decades. But is there a possibility that earthquakes are less frequent now?
Our age is sometimes called the age of fossil fuels. In the past one hundred years, there have been large scale extractions of oil and natural gas from underground. These extractions reduce the pressure underground. This will potentially reduce the frequency and magnitude of earthquakes.
Does this reasoning make sense?
