English is the language emerged about 600 A.D. in the tribal society in the northern Europe. It is part of Germanic branch of Indo-European language.
Like any language (Chinese as an example), English is simply a carrier of communications among the people in the area for thousand of years. English however enjoyed unprecedented popularity only in the last one hundred years as the result of the English industry revolution and the spread of English products. Who can not afford not to learn English when Newton is mentioned? Who cannot afford not to learn English when Shakespeare is mentioned?
Of course, there are people who do not care about languages other than Chinese. Those are the emperors of China and Mao and his colonies. The learned Marxism and others from the second hands. The rest is history - we all know what happened to China and Chinese in the last hundred years.
Any language is like a tool. Yout use it for any purpose - murdering, stealing, suppressing; or for something better. Its not the fault of the language but the people who use it.
