Beside a rock in wintry air
Retreats a sleepy and blind bear
Snow covers him from toes to nose
Will he, after this freezing cold
Again find and sniff the same manure?

Why does the bear with hoary hair
Find refugee here, not in his lair?
Why does this grovelling bear doze
Beside a rock?

A birdcall sends a smile so rare
Across his face not really fair
His dangling tongue now quickly grows
Around which profusely fluid flows
With what he drools for an affair?
