Congenital infections cause severe problems in babies. Parents would be painful forever for their own fault. A simple and inexpensive medical screening test,however, is a soultion to prevent such a regret.
One multiple combination is called TORCH. Clinical features of TORCH infections include intrauterine growth retardation, nonimmune hydrops fetalis, anemia, and jaundice.
1) Toxoplasmosis (or "T") is caused by a parasite in cat feces. It can manifest as ring-enhancing brain lesion.
2)Other (or "O") includes varicella zoster,syphilis, HIV, and hepatitis B.
3). Rubella (or "R")is a dangerous in the first trimester. It causes patent ductus arteriosus, congenital deafness, and varying degrees of mental retardation. Newborns present with thrombocytopenic purpura characterized by skin lesion.
4) Cytomegalovirus(C) produces a distinct pepechial (bleeding spots) "blueberry muffin rash".
5)Herpes simples (H)can be transmitted during vaginal delivery if the mother have active lesions (STD patients).
