首先，詩歌翻譯是一種再創作，不但要貼意，更要出神，也就是說，不但要用中國人的思維讀懂原作，把意思翻出來，還要找到英語或者美語貼近的語言環境和習慣用法，或者說法：也就是說李白的原作是中國人的說話方式，千萬別順着中國人說話的方式翻譯，要用英文的習慣手法。
；另外要求對仗，如果原作對仗，其他部分可以稍微鬆散一些，最後是節奏。
當然，如果能靈感來襲，翻譯出一兩句傳世的家具，真人生之大幸！詩壇之大幸！吾輩之大幸也，可遇不可求。
所以，輕易不要翻譯古詩歌，除非有靈感，好像再寫一手，將進酒，用英文。
首先，這首的第一個高潮是：黃河之水天上來。
這句的氣勢一定要翻出來，好像唱歌的第一句。
我們對比一下豌豌和蘭蘭的各自翻譯：
豌版：

Can't you see,

waters of the Yellow River come from the sky,

run in torrents toward the sea and never come back.

Don’t thou see,  the water of the Yellow River comes from the sky  in torrents,

Roaring fiercely  toward the sea non-return?

the waters 是《聖經》裡面第一章《創世紀》對大洪水時“水”的描述，所以用複數+定冠詞，所以，2人的翻譯都在語法上稍微有些偏差，但不重要。後來水勢減了以後，聖經就是the water和the waters混用了，見創世紀的第8章。
那麼這句的氣勢如何翻出來呢？從節奏上講，從英文上講，越簡單氣勢就越宏大，越複雜羅嗦，氣勢就小，這個是英文和中文的差異。
所以這樣翻，似乎氣勢更好一些：
Would you see? falling down the sky,  the waters of yellow river running to the sea and never come back.
Would you see? facing toward the mirror, the sadly hairs of your parents ....


人生得意須盡歡，莫使金樽空對月。
豌：

Everyone ought to enjoy life to the fullest during good times,

never leave a depleted golden wine barrel facing the moon.

Lets celebrate the life passionately when it is yet in joy,

Never  raise thy golden goblet to the Moon empty.

天生我材必有用，千金散盡還復來。
豌：

God has conferred me talent and there will be my time,

fortunes may fritter away but you can regain everything.
蘭：

We're naturally born with capability,

We must achieve something great one day,

Gold could be gone,

Gold would come back again.
