艾薇塔（麥當娜 Madonna飾）和當時在阿根廷頗為走紅的歌手一夜情後，就以此為跳板踏上了前往布宜諾斯艾利斯之路。這個美麗的少女，就是日後名氣大震的貝隆夫人。可是，15歲的艾薇塔一無所有，她被拋棄在陌生的城市裡，唯一的資本就是自己的美貌。艾薇塔擠入了上流圈子，成為名流男士中間的交際花。隨之而來的，是她進軍娛樂圈取得的不俗成績。她一躍成為名人，並在慈善會上結識了貝隆上校（喬納森·普雷斯 Jonathan Pryce飾），二人情投意合。  艾薇塔從此正式登上了政治舞台。她當上了貝隆政治生涯的賢內助，並一直主張為窮人謀利益。政治的世界風雲幻變，而艾薇塔也漸漸找到實現自己政治理想的路徑，並為此努力一生，成為阿根廷民眾心中的“第一夫人”。
