Poetry Masterpiece by Tang Dynasty Poet Li Bai "Making Wine Toasts"
Can't you see,
waters of the Yellow River come from the sky,
run in torrents toward the sea and never come back.
Can't you see,
one has enjoyed his high mansion but now looks sad with grey hair in reflective mirrors,
that vibrant and silky hair at dawn has so quickly fallen into snow flakes around dusk.
Everyone ought to enjoy life to the fullest during good times,
never leave a depleted golden wine barrel facing the moon.
God has endowed me with talent and my time will come,
fortunes may fritter away but you can regain everything.
Cooking lamb and sacrificing cattle are for enjoyment,
just party and indulge in a drink of three hundred cups.
Master Cen, Gentleman Danqiu,
I am making toasts to you,
please keep drinking and do not restrain.
I am singing a song for you,
please listen and do not turn away.
Entertaining with bells and drums plus extravagant banquet is just proper,
would rather remain permanently intoxicated and never again go sober.
Sages and saints of the past were all just loners,
those who left their mark in history were actually drinkers.
Lord Chen used to throw banquet in the Peace and Joy Palace,
he swigged ten thousand drinks and he was relentless and ecstatic.
A host should never complain about being broke,
just go ahead to buy plenty of wine for guest's sake.
Pinto horse, luxury fur,
please dispatch Son to redeem for luscious wine entirely,
only drinking together with you can dispel sorrow of eternity.
