Demographics and government policy

Alberta and Saskatchewan governments recently announce that they are abandoning the restrictive policies on the society. They are taking a leadership role in this process. Most commentators analyse this from a political perspective. We can look at it from a more basic level, demographics.

The following table is the median ages of different provinces. From the table, Alberta and Saskatchewan, together with Manitoba, have the youngest populations. This is why the governments of Alberta and Saskatchewan have strong incentive to offer youth friendly policies.

By the way, the provinces with the oldest populations, New Foundland and Labrador, New Brunswick,  and Nova Scotia, all have their names starting with new.
