More people went to see the Passion than Nativity Story is simply because Passion is a much better movie.
Nativity Story is another example of Hollywood trying to get money out off Christians’ pockets. For Hollywood, they really don’t care about its about saints or devils. Getting in your wallet is all they want.
When Mel’s made the Passion, no company in Hollywood willing to put any money into the project. No company in Hollywood believed Americans were so “nuts” like Mel. Eventually, Mel had to fund the project on his own money.
The result is history. Then Hollywood realized there were a HUGE market in the Christian Movie. When businessman see business opportunity, what will they do?
The failure of Nativity Story is it’s a business movie. Business movie means it should sell as many tickets as possible. How do you make a Christian story sell as many tickets as possible? Make it “non offensive, non controversial, non personal”. On the other hand, Passion is “offensive, controversial, personal”. That’s the difference between Art and Business.
Quotes from some review I like:
“If you want to know anything new about Nativity Story, don’t go to see Nativity Story, It’s exactly what you think a Nativity Story is like...”
“the movie (Nativity story) is inspired by a miracle...
300M dollars Mel Gibson made from Passion”

BTW. Mel’s new movie is No.1 in Box Office last weekend (with my $10 help, of course)
