挪亞的日子怎樣，人子的日子也要怎樣。那時候的人又吃又喝，又娶又嫁，到挪亞進方舟的那日，洪水就來，把他們全都滅了。又好像羅得的日子，人又吃又喝，又買又賣，又耕種又蓋造。到羅得出所多瑪的那日，就有火與硫磺從天上降下來，把他們全都滅了。 人子顯現的日子也要這樣。（路加福音 17:26-30）
當時他的聲音震動了地，但如今他應許說：“再一次我不單要震動地，還要震動天。” 這再一次的話，是指明被震動的，就是受造之物都要挪去，使那不被震動的常存。所以，我們既得了不能震動的國，就當感恩，照神所喜悅的，用虔誠、敬畏的心事奉神。因為我們的神乃是烈火。（希伯來書 12:26-29）
這些人都是存着信心死的，並沒有得着所應許的，卻從遠處望見，且歡喜迎接，又承認自己在世上是客旅，是寄居的。說這樣話的人，是表明自己要找一個家鄉。他們若想念所離開的家鄉，還有可以回去的機會。他們卻羨慕一個更美的家鄉，就是在天上的。所以神被稱為他們的神，並不以為恥，因為他已經給他們預備了一座城。（希伯來書 11:13-16）
