23:1-4 在亚伯拉罕的时代，死亡和埋葬死人在礼仪和传统上是庄严的事。对死者不敬就是对其最大的侮辱；不合礼仪的葬礼就等于咒诅。在葬礼之中少不了哀哭，众亲友皆要大声哭号，让四周的人都听到。由于没有殡仪馆、殡仪员，这些亲友会帮助埋葬死人。由于天气暖和，丧礼和葬礼往往在同一天举行。
亚伯拉罕获得了异族的尊敬，他的秘诀是甚么？

撒拉的死与安葬（23：1－20）
1. 撒拉死于亚伯拉罕定居的希伯仑，享寿127岁。此时以撒已
37岁了。亚伯拉罕为撒拉哀恸哭号，自己又活了38年，直到
175岁离世（23：1－2）。
2. 此章的重点并不是在撒拉的死与被葬。而是在应许之地购
买墓地，这个行为暗示了亚伯拉罕开始认为迦南是他的家
乡。蒙召去应许之地定居一事到此盖棺论定。
3. 亚伯拉罕与赫人商讨（讨价还价）选择墓地。因亚伯拉罕的
