- A new Fed forecast says it thinks unemployment won't fall below eight per cent this year.
- The Fed also lowered its outlook for growth this year but was more optimistic about the next two years.
- The Fed now expects growth to be no stronger than two per cent this year,down from its forecast of 2.4 per cent in June and in line with most private economists' predictions.
- But it expects growth to accelerate next year to as much as three per cent. That's up from June's forecast of as much as 2.8 per cent.
- For 2014, the Fed projected growth between three per cent and 3.8 per cent.

"If the outlook for the labor market does not improve substantially, the committee will continue its purchases of agency mortgage-backed securities, undertake additional asset purchases and employ its other policy tools as appropriate until such improvement is achieved in a context of price stability,"
