        It is hard to hear the north wind again,

        And to watch the treetops, as they sway.

        They sway, deeply and loudly, in an effort,

        So much less than feeling, so much less than speech,

        Saying and saying, the way things say

        On the level of that which is not yet knowledge:

        A revelation not yet intended.

        It is like a critic of God, the world

        And human nature, pensively seated

        On the waste throne of his own wilderness.

        Deeplier, deeplier, loudlier, loudlier,

        The trees are swaying, swaying, swaying.

很難再聽到北風作響，

又很難看見樹梢搖曳。

它們狂吼地搖擺，

缺乏豐富感情，缺乏生動言語，

說來說去，表達方式

毫無知識層面：

並不想要啟示。

像評論上帝、世界

乃至人性，憂鬱地坐

在自己荒野的廢棄寶座上。

越來越狂烈、越來越吼嘯，

樹木在搖曳、搖曳、搖曳。

【注】1911年投入使用的紐約公共圖書館主分館也靠整建紐約主要淡水源——巴豆(Croton)水庫而來，其西面背靠誠實公園(Bryant Park)，資金主要來自立陶宛移民“戰神·快樂”(Martin Radtke)的捐款，他幾乎沒有機會接受正規教育，切身感激紐約公共圖書館為他提供了自我教育的機會。為了衷表謝意，他將遺產捐給了紐約圖書館，冀求造福於社會，以便後代也能獲得與他同樣的機會。正如刻在正門入口處地面石匾描述的那樣，他的生活因圖書館而改變，現在他的遺產又讓圖書館變得更加充實。

1966年，與誠實公園一道被納入《美國國家史跡名錄》。
