Whatever endeavor I attempt in life, I must know "WHY"before I search for "HOW".
面對生活中的每一個選擇，我在如何行動之前必須先知道“為什麼”。
I think I owe all the supporters "Why" I'm running forJC city council, and hopefully this will clarify the "why".
我認為我需要向所有的支持者解釋清楚，我為什麼要競選Johns Creek市議員的席位。
Dear all, I want to first thank all of you who have supported mydecision to run for the JC city council seat. My wife and I are grateful forall the support and encouraging words that you have either posted on WeChat,through phone calls, emails or spoken face to face.
尊敬的讀者，首先我要感謝所有從一開始就支持我這個參選決定的人。對於你們通過微信、電話、電子郵件和當面的鼓勵，我和我的妻子表示由衷的感激。
As a first-generation Chinese-American, I can relate to the manychallenges that you face on a day-to-day basis; I remember standing in line atfast food restaurants struggling verbally to place my order; I remember walkinginto a country gas station and receiving funny looks because the gas stationowners have never seen an Asian come through the door; I remember how doctorvisits and insurance paperwork can ruin a day. But I've made some decisions: Iwas not going to let the language barrier become my roadblock to"success"; I was not going to let others' distorted views about myChinese heritage hinder my confidence to be the best that I can be.
作為一個第一代美國的華裔，我經歷過你每天所面臨的生活挑戰。我依然還記得，當年在速食店裡拙口笨舌的點餐過程；我也記得，當我走進一個鄉村的加油站時面對店主奇怪的眼神，因為當地人從未見過亞洲人。我記得光是去看個病，或是處理保險公司的單據，就足以把我的一天搞得一團糟。但是我仍然下定了一個決心，就是不讓語言障礙阻止我邁向成功的腳步；我更不會因為他人對華裔的偏見，擊垮我邁向卓越的信心。
By the Grace of God, I received Christ on Nov 02, 1997; It hasprofoundly changed my perspective in life and this land that we now calledhome: America, the land of the free, and the home of the brave. I fell in lovewith the passion of our founding fathers who are the authors of ourconstitution and who pioneered the paths and shed their blood for the libertyand freedom that we now enjoy.
因着上帝的恩典，我在1997年11月2日接受了基督。我的信仰歷程徹底地改變了我的人生價值觀，同時對於這片被稱為美利堅的土地，我也有了更深層的認識；這是一片自由的土地，也是勇者的家園。我們的開國元勛制定了憲法、開疆拓土並且灑下了熱血，締造出我們今天所能享受的自由生活。他們對於這片土地的激情深深觸動了我。
Over the years, I have realized that "success" is amoving target: no two individuals can give the same definition of success. Mylife goal has evolved from "success"to "significance"; Iknow that I need to be "on a mission" for a worthy cause.
Entering public service is one of those decisions that Iconsidered to be a "worthy cause".
經過這麼多年，我認識到所謂的“成功”，其實是一個可變的目標。沒有兩個人能給“成功”做出完全相同的定義。而我自己的人生目標，已經從單純的“成功的人生”，轉化為“有意義的人生”。我知道，我必須擔負起更有意義的使命；進入公共服務的領域，是那些我個人從事更有價值的事業的一個決定。
For nearly 3 decades, things have changed and progressed. We caneasily find Chinese speaking doctors, insurance agents and many otherprofessions that can cater to our needs. Despite all the progress, there is avoid in public service. Lack of participation in the political process resultedin lack of representation in the political realm. During the 2014 congressionalelection, a group of friends and I supported congressman Jody Hice for the 10thdistrict congressional election and he was elected to office to serve his firstterm as the 10th district US congressman. A true conservative congressman whois more concerned about serving his constituents by staying true toconservative values and the Constitution than re-election. I was encouraged byJody and many other friends to run for JC City Council, and after extensivediscussions with family and friends, I decided to run for the position.
最近三十年來環境在變化，時代也在進步。現在會講中文的醫生、保險經紀以及其他各行各業的專業人士已經隨處可見，但是在公共服務的領域這方面還是空白；華人在政治活動方面的缺席，自然造成華裔族群在政治領域失去代表性。在2014年的國會大選中，我和一群朋友支持Jody Hice在國會第10區選區的競選，結果他被成功選為第10區美國國會議員，並開始了他的第一個任期。作為一個真正的保守派議員，他最關心的是如何本着保守的價值觀更好地為選民服務，而不是在意自己的位子能不能連任。在Jody和其他朋友的鼓舞下，並與家人和朋友多次討論後，我決定參選Johns Creek 市議員。
It is not an impulsive decision nor a self-serving decision. Myprayer and hope is to serve the citizens of Johns Creek with my utmost abilityand capacity to make this city that we now call home a better place to live andto raise our family. And through the process, we can encourage more youngerChinese Americans to participate and to represent our community.
我的這個參選決定，既不是出於衝動、也不是出於私心。我祈禱並希望盡我本人最大的所能，竭誠服務Johns Creek市的公民，使這個我們所定居的的城市成為更美好的家園。我也希望這次選舉過程，可以鼓勵更多年輕的華裔參與政治活動，為社區做出更大貢獻。
