Yau is a great mathematcian, but the problem with Yau is that he discriminates against all Chinese, particularly Chinese from mainland China. Here are some examples:
1. Yau says things in China that he wouldn't dare to say in the west. He knows that the statements he made in the connection with Poincare Conjecture in China are wrong. He over-hypered Cao-Zhu at the 6/3 press conference in Beijing, but at the same time, he stated that, to the US mathematics community, that Perelman proved Poincare conjecture. This shows that Yau does not respect Chinese people and he treated them as someone he can fool and he can control. Indeed, Chinese people can be easily deceived. It is painful to see so many misguided souls.
2. Yau has many students, with a large number of them Chinese. Yau treated most of his Chinese students with disrespect, while non-Chinese students are spared. Case in point: a few years ago, Yau decided to attack Tian and forced his students (Chinese, of course) to find and compile mistakes in Tian's papers so that he could distribute them in the math community. This was really crazy. Yau's action hurt himself more than it hurt Tian. Even his friends were concerned and started to question Yau's mental states. None of Yau's students, besides Liu Kefeng, wanted to get involved, but there is nothing they could do.
3. Yau only dictates in China and he never respected anyone besides government officials. Mathematics in China is still weak, but people deserve respect.
This reminds me of OJ Simpson. OJ is black, but he disrespects black people. But in the end, black people saved him. It is time for us to support Yau!
