說起了物種起源，就不得不說一說哈佛經典。我早就說過最先發起哈佛經典叢書的那個傢伙，就是一個哈達派。因為在他1909年最初推出的50卷哈佛經典中，有整整的兩卷，第十一和第二十九卷，也就是二十五分之一的篇幅，都是達爾文的着作，古今中外，包括馬克思、牛頓、伽利略、柏拉圖和孔夫子在內的四百個人都算上，還包括上帝他爹，加在了一起，有一個算一個，也沒有誰比達爾文更牛逼。
Originally published between 1909 and 1917 under the name Harvard Classics this stupendous 51-volume set-a collection of the greatest writings from literature, philosophy, history, and mythology-was assembled by American academic CHARLES WILLIAM ELIOT (1834-1926), Harvard University's longest-serving president. Also known as Dr. Eliot's Five Foot Shelf, it represented Eliot's belief that a basic liberal education could be gleaned by reading from an anthology of works that could fit on five feet of bookshelf. The first 25 volumes were published in 1909 followed by the next 25 volumes in 1910. The collection was enhanced when the Lectures on The Harvard Classics was added in 1914 and Fifteen Minutes a Day - The Reading Guide in 1916.
使達爾文爆得大名的，就是位列哈佛經典第十一卷的，1859年首發的《物種起源》。

比《物種起源》更牛逼的達爾文着作，不是物種起源，而是首發於1839年的《環球旅行》，當時的達爾文，年僅叄十歲。而當他於1832-1835年從事環球旅行的時候，更是初出茅廬，青澀稚嫩少不更事的毛頭小伙子。
The Voyage of the Beagle is the title most commonly given to the book written by Charles Darwin and published in 1839 as his Journal and Remarks, bringing him considerable fame and respect. This was the third volume of The Narrative of the Voyages of H.M. Ships Adventure and Beagle, the other volumes of which were written or edited by the commanders of the ships. Journal and Remarks cover Darwin's part in the second survey expedition of the ship HMS Beagle. Due to the popularity of Darwin's account, the publisher reissued it later in 1839 as Darwin's Journal of Researches, and the revised second edition published in 1845 used this title.
為什麼說達爾文創作於1832-1835年的環球旅行比物種起源更牛逼呢？因為到了1969年，哈佛經典出23卷收藏精裝本的時候，物種起源就不見了，而環球旅行卻依然在列：
常言說，不怕不識貨，就怕貨比貨。最近有人在網上懷念叄八六，就是因為瘸子裡面拔將軍，和不學無術只會列書單的豬頭相比，叄八六談笑風生博覽群書，不知比豬頭要高出多少倍。
環球旅行之所以牛逼，是因為環球旅行孕育了生物進化，也最終造就了物種起源，而不是也不可能是反過來。
