指向非常明确，即为反对科学和学术不端引起的法律纠纷及科普提供资金支持。在“基金会”成立之初，还未公布项目资助申请指南时，即宣布将为方舟子的一系列官司提供资助。

在该组织向佛罗里达州注册时提供的备案材料中提到组织目的时却是另一个版本。

ARTICLE 2 - PURPOSE OF CORPORATION

The Corporation is organized exclusively for charitable, religious, educational, and scientific purpose, including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code.

在ARTICLE 3 - PROHIBITIONS中，明确说明公司赢利不得用于其成员、董事、官员，或其他个人，除非公司被授权为某些服务支付合理补偿，或为上述目的（见ARTICLE 2）支付费用。

肖、方官司是个人之间因名誉权引起的法律纠纷，不涉及到其它组织，不涉及到科学知识的教育和传播，也没有就“肖氏反射弧”具体学术观点上的争论，很显然不属于“慈善、宗教、教育、科学”所包含的内容。基金会为方舟子个人打官司筹款有悖于它向州政府注册时的声明，在网站上公布另一套文件更是有蒙骗大众的嫌疑。
