2017-08-04 【Aiden in English】 I got Lyle as my partner, which already made my day. But more than that, today was a great day of learning. Understanding that from now on it was going to be a fast, downhill ride, every lesson from now on had to be worth spending the energy and time. I also suddenly realized how little time I had to prepare this case. As time continued to click toward the final debate, every second seemed to weigh a bit heavier. I thought that we needed practice, which was true, but our instructor enforced other values, like presentation before content. Lyle and I still had a bit of information to gather before the debate, and I totally understand that. After an ordinary breakfast, I attempted a quick contention versus contention against a friend, resulting in my case getting destroyed. However, I did have some great points against their argument, poking holes that I would use again later. After all this time, I finally began to understand the concepts of the debate, but even to understand was not to know how to actually do the competition. So today was simply a day to prepare for public speaking. We practiced calm and variety within scripted presentations. It sounds boring and useless, yet we all put in the effort, making the most of the otherwise unnecessary exercise. Today was a very much grind for me. The realization of the final debate suddenly spurred my teenage procrastination spirit kicked into overdrive, fueled by Mountain Dew and coffee, powering through the night and into the morning. The only reason I hadn’t fallen asleep in class was because of the adrenaline debates gave you. To further research, I crammed much of my time writing this blog way into the morning hours. Most of the roommates already researched late into the night, which meant this entire camp were filled with a bunch of cranky teens running on four hours of sleep. I can’t believe why we continue doing this. I want to win, but others don’t really care. So why are they also “studying” to twelve at night? Regardless, competition is approaching, so I can’t do much else than study and prepare. Tomorrow is to practice the debates, and the day after is also to practice. Then after that, it is the real deal, a tournament within divisions. Today in History(歷史上的今天): 2014: Chankanaab NP in Cozumel, Mexico(墨西哥科蘇梅爾島昌卡納國家公園) 2012: Tennis Camp(網球夏令營)
