《诗经·秦风·蒹葭》是中国历史记载上的第一首言情诗，广为古今有情人吟诵称道，其中最激动人心的是“在水一方”的第一段，但古今翻译家就此之作大且不算成功，特此呵出一版，与诗友共榷。

《诗经·秦风·蒹葭》

蒹葭苍苍，白露为霜。所谓伊人，在水一方。溯洄从之，道阻且长。溯游从之，宛在水中央。

Vast reed bushes no end in sight, 

with grey dewdrops just turning frosty. 

Where is the dream one I love,

got to be on the waters somewhere. 

Riding upstream to look for her,

it's treacherous and arduous. 

Flowing downstream to find her,

as if she were right in the midst of river.
