《詩經·秦風·蒹葭》是中國歷史記載上的第一首言情詩，廣為古今有情人吟誦稱道，其中最激動人心的是“在水一方”的第一段，但古今翻譯家就此之作大且不算成功，特此呵出一版，與詩友共榷。

《詩經·秦風·蒹葭》

蒹葭蒼蒼，白露為霜。所謂伊人，在水一方。溯洄從之，道阻且長。溯游從之，宛在水中央。

Vast reed bushes no end in sight, 

with grey dewdrops just turning frosty. 

Where is the dream one I love,

got to be on the waters somewhere. 

Riding upstream to look for her,

it's treacherous and arduous. 

Flowing downstream to find her,

as if she were right in the midst of river.
