Since 1980's and 1990's, we have the (NT and then both NT and OT) New Chinese Translation which is being accepted by the Chinese Christian community.

You ask about the precise meaning of Matthew 24:34 (這世代還沒有過去，這些事都要成就)。The key to the correct exegesis lies in the understanding of "these things" (transliterated as "panta" in original Greek Bible). We must look for the context that defines "these things". Most easily we locate the context of Jesus' famous Olivet discourse (Matthew 24-25) at the beginning of Matthew 24, verses 1 to 3:

24:1 耶穌出了聖殿、正走的時候、門徒進前來、把殿宇指給他看。

24:2 耶穌對他們說、你們不是看見這殿宇麼．我實在告訴你們、將來在這裡、沒有一塊石頭留在石頭上不被拆毀了。

24:3 耶穌在橄欖山上坐着、門徒暗暗的來說、請告訴我們、甚麼時候有這些事．你降臨和世界的末了、有甚麼預兆呢。

The disciples asked Jesus TWO questions in verse 3:

Q1: 甚麼時候有這些事 (meaning the startling revelation by Jesus in verse 2: the utter, flattening destructions of the Holy Temple).

Q2: 你降臨和世界的末了、有甚麼預兆呢

Jesus answered the second question first in his discourse (Matthew 24:4-14) and the first question afterwards (Matthew 24:15-22, also see Luke 21:20-24) before he returns to address the second question again with more revealing details (Matthew 24:23-41). In Matthew's ????ic handling of the Olivet discourse, he apparently placed Jesus' warning about the time frame of fulfilling "these things" at verse 34, mixed with Jesus' other warning about his second coming. An average reader may find it a bit mixed up on reading verse 34. This is understandable, and we see Luke's ????ic handling of the Olivet discourse is also somewhat different from Matthew's.

Lo and behold, "THESE THINGS" did happen within "this generation" then (這世代). To Jewish people, 40 years constitute one generation (that is why Saul, David, and Solomon were said to have each reigned for 40 years). In August 70AD (that is about 36 years after Jesus' Olivet discourse which happened probably on Wednesday, April 1, 33AD), Roman General Titus and his army, after many months of encircling the rebellious city, eventually broke down the resistance, slaughtered most Jews who had not died of hunger and exiled the remnant, pillaged and torched the city, burned the temple to its stone walls, and chipped open one stone after another to collect the gold melted earlier in the fire. THESE THINGS happened precisely according to Jesus' word which is also foretold by prophet Daniel some 600 years earlier (Daniel 9).
