So you want to go to heaven, if there is one.
Then earn your way up there, some are quick to advise.
Or better yet, have faith in Jesus, others advertise.

No one is ever perfect in this life, even sages concede.
Silence reaffirms this reality, as nobody files a protest.
So no one can really earn a way up to heavenly rest.

What about those who do good more than bad?
There comes a simple arithmetic plea.
Yep, what about those poor in faith but rich in deeds?

Without faith, why would anyone do good? I venture to quip.
For earning salvation merits or deriving altruistic joy?
Or simply for self-aggrandizing glory?

Did God endorse your term then?
Or is this your unilateral expectation?
Would the Lamb of God have died in vain?

But faith without good deeds is as good as dead, you argue.
Then have faith that is backed up by good deeds, I concur.
Any threshold of good deeds? I wonder.

What if the passing score is not 51, 60, or 99?
What if it is the self-unattainable holy perfection?
Will you apply for God's credit protection?

I am unworthy and undeserving! You are blushing.
Who said we are worthy and deserving?
It is all by grace from the most loving.
