Waiting and idling may not be a good strategy. It is like holding a stock whose price is in sure decline, unless you intend to hold it long (many years), the best decision is to sell it quick and minimize the potential loss.

Besides, since you will have to buy a house in the new place sometime in the future, the better strategy is to sell your current house quickly NOW (to minimize loss), and WAIT a little longer for the price to drop further and stabilize before you buy a new house (to cut down the buying price). Thus, you may minimize the loss and even pocket some profit between selling your house and buying another.

In short, WAITING should not be placed on the current house, it should be for buying the new house.

Selling your house fast even at a loss compared to your original buying is a wise strategy as long as you know that you will relocate, since your saving will come with buying a cheaper house, not so much with selling it at a premium (which is highly unlikely now).
