Next week's (yes, Week of March 12) Time magazine carried two essays about this story.

Personally I issue two lines of critical challenges:

(1) What about all the postive evidence about Jesus's resurrection? One cannot turn a blind eyes to the preponderance of historical evidence for Jesus's resurrection. After all the church was established on the crucial claim of Jesus of Nazareth being the resurrected Lord.

(2) Why would it take close to 2000 years for the Jesus family tomb to be unearthed in Jerusalem instead of hometown Nazareth or ancestral town Bethelehem? I bet some years from now, another Jesus tomb will be unearthed from those and other places. Why had the first century Jews who were anti-Christ and anti-Christians so miserably failed to discover the family clan's tomb then? Even if Jesus' body was not found, why would not those anti-Christian zealots follow the easy path of finding the family clan's tombs that housed up to 10 family members' dead bones? We are talking about one funeral after another, altogether ten funerals for the Jesus clan in the first century.

So who planted those bones? A family like Jesus's? Fraud?
