亚伯兰以弱胜强，为甚么会有这种不可思议的事出现？
14:4-16 当时，大多数城邑都有自己的君王。君王之间的战争和竞争是司空见惯之事，而被征服的城邑要向得胜的君王进贡。除了圣经以外，我们无法从其他地方知道关于基大老玛的事，但他显然是一位强大的君王。包括所多玛在内，有五个城邑向他进贡了十二年。后来，这五个城邑联盟背叛他，不向他进贡。但基大老玛马上出击，再次征服他们。他打败所多玛时，掳掠了罗得、他全家和他的财物。亚伯兰只率领318人追赶基大老玛的军队，在大马士革附近追上他们。靠著神的帮助，他打败了他们，救回罗得、他的一家并他的财物。
不被眼前事物所诱惑，凭信心仰望神的应许，好像有点空泛……
14:12 罗得贪求一切最好的东西，使他陷入罪恶的网罗。多得财富和成就的渴望，反而令他失去自由和享受。他被基大老玛掳去，可能会受到严刑、奴役或面对死亡。我们也像他那样，常被引诱去做不该做的事，或是去不当去的地方。我们所渴望的美好前途往往会引诱我们，奴役我们，甚至俘掳我们。
亚伯兰拥有勇气与谨慎，叫他战胜敌人，我又以甚么来作争战的准备？
14:14-16 这件事描绘出亚伯兰的两个特点：（1）他从神得到勇气，能攻击强大的仇敌。（2）他作好准备，下功夫训练家里的壮丁，去应付可能的冲突。我们不知道神会在甚么时候呼召我们去完成艰巨的任务，我们应当像亚伯兰一样，作好准备，回应神的呼召。
亚伯兰能够当机立断，解决问题。在相同之处境下，我会作甚么回应？
14:14-16 亚伯兰听到罗得被掳后，立刻去救他。本来，不惹祸上身是最稳妥的，但是罗得遇到危难，亚伯兰就立刻采取行动。为了帮助别人，有时我们也会陷入痛苦和混乱之中，但我们应当像亚伯兰对罗得一样，愿意立刻采取行动。

8. 第14章所记述的事件发生在约主前二千年，其中所列举的
城、国、和王在世俗历史书中可找到对应。虽然第14章准确
地记录了一个历史事件，但这并不是这段经文的真正目的。
神是要向亚伯兰显明他将赐能力使亚伯兰（和其后裔）战胜
各样强敌，保卫迦南（应许之地）；这贯穿在整个以色列历
史中。神确实是他子民的“盾牌”（见15：1）。
9. 罗得陷入困境是因他与邪恶的人联系过密。这是很好的教
训！人有可能在不当的时间、不当的地方和不当的人在一起。
10. 第14章中充满了难以记忆的王的名字，但我们至少可以总结
一下所发生的事件。四个美索布达米亚地区的王（14：1，特
别注意“士拿”是在巴比伦）进攻巴勒斯坦，并攻击约旦平
原（14：2）的五个结盟的王，那时五国均位于死海的南端（西
订谷）。

约旦河谷的五王所力不能及的，亚伯兰靠神的力量就作到
