Shanghai is the most sophisticated and charming city in China, by far. I have been traveling China many times in the recent 5 years. Shanghai is the only place I can stay for more than one month. Beijing is an excellent city for tourists, but you don't want to live there for more than 2 weeks.  No other cities in China are worth for more than 3 days.
