the timing of the A-bomb was such that no one was really saved. that the bombing stopped japanese from killing millions of chinese is a myth at best, one that you obviously have bought.

"...Japan was already defeated and that dropping the bomb was completely unnecessary." Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe and future president of the United States.

"The Japanese position was hopeless even before the first atomic bomb fell because the Japanese had lost control of their own air." Henry H. Arnold, Commanding General of the U.S. Army Air Forces.

"The Japanese had, in fact, already sued for peace. The atomic bomb played no decisive part, from a purely military point of view, in the defeat of Japan." Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet.

"The use of [the atomic bombs] at Hiroshima and Nagasaki was of no material assistance in our war against Japan. The Japanese were already defeated and ready to surrender." Fleet Admiral William D. Leahy, Chief of Staff to President Truman.

"Certainly prior to 31 December 1945, and in all probability prior to 1 November 1945, Japan would have surrendered even if the atomic bombs had not been dropped." U.S. Strategic Bombing Survey.

as I have stated before, I don't disagree with the decision to drop the bombs, from a strategic standpoint, which is probably why the bombs were dropped in the first place. but to defend it from a moralistic and religious point of view, is ludicrous at best.
