保羅說的恰恰就是新舊約上的字句！

哥林多後書 - 第 3 章 第 6 節
他叫我們能承當這新約的執事。不是憑着字句，乃是憑着精意。因為那字句是叫人死，精意是叫人活。（精意或作聖靈）。He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

保羅這句說的是新約的字句。

羅馬書 - 第 7 章 第 6 節
但我們既然在捆我們的律法上死了，現今就脫離了律法，叫我們服事主，要按着心靈的新樣，不按着儀文的舊樣（心靈或作聖靈）。But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

KJV: But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

保羅這句說的是舊約的字句，即儀文。

總之，無論舊約新約的字句都適用這句話：字句是叫人死，精意是叫人活。舊約人也是因信稱義的，而不是行律法。
