12月16日 《路加福音》中所记载的传统的圣诞故事是这样开头的:“当那些日子,该撒亚古士督有旨意下来,叫天下人民都报名上册。”(路加福音2章1节)我们在读这句话的时候,通常不会再深入地去思考它的意义。 亚古士督是罗马帝国最伟大的君王,他比他的叔祖该撒犹流(现译为凯撒尤利乌斯,就是我们熟知的凯撒大帝)更为伟大。他作王期间让罗马城由一座砖城建造为一座大理石之城。他在位统治罗马帝国41年,为世界带来了闻名的“罗马和平盛世”,期间整个地中海地区都处在罗马帝国统治下的和平时期。 而他最伟大的政绩,一个对于人类历史影响最为深远的举动,就是下令执行了一次全帝国范围的人口普查。这个普查的目的就将所有拥有财产的人登记在册以便征税。所以这个普查和宗教信仰毫无关联,它只是政府一直沿用的一项政策而已。 历史学家的研究表明,这个普查并不是在所有的帝国统治区域同时进行的。在当时那种信息传递极为缓慢的情况下,在那些边远的省份完成一次普查可能要花费长达数年的时间。很大程度上取决于当地的官员是否愿意配合执行。 当普查推行到以色列境内的时候,原本的政令可能已经因为犹太的传统和做出过调整。罗马本国人可以从当时的居住地参与普查,而犹太人则须全家回到籍贯所在地。这就解释了为何约瑟和马利亚必须得在马利亚临产这样不便的时候,长途跋涉回到伯利恒去。 可以确定的是,该撒亚古士督从来没见过约瑟或马利亚,他也完全不知道那个犹太男婴(主耶稣)将会在耶路撒冷的郊外出生。亚古士督死的时候,罗马人像失去了他们的神一般地哀痛。可是,他们并不知道,神使用那一次的人口普查,将祂自己的儿子带到这个世上。 因此,我们该对该撒亚古士督说“圣诞快乐!你不知道,你也有一份功劳,因为你为大君王的出生铺平了道路。” 主,祢掌管所有世上最强大的统治者。求祢打开我们属灵的眼睛,让我们看到祢那双看不见的手在世上做工。阿们。 颂歌:2010年10月30日,费城歌剧公司组织了一个超过650人的合唱团,演出了韩德尔哈利路亚大合唱(Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus)。我看到这段视频的时候,甚至都想要站起来大声欢呼。因为所有人都要知道——祂掌权直到永永远远。 哈利路亚!因为主我们的上帝,全能者作王了。世上的国成了我主和主基督的 国;他要作王,直到永永远远。万王之王,万主之主。(启19:6下, 11:15下, 19:16下) 附上颂歌全篇歌词, Handel’s Messiah 这首气势磅礴的伟大诗歌,《哈利路亚》这部分的主题取自新约圣经启示录的经文, 包括第19章第6节,第11章第15节,和第19章第16节: Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah For the lord God omnipotent reigneth, 因为主我们的上帝,全能者作王 Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, 哈利路亚!哈利路亚!哈利路亚!哈利路亚!
