philosophy is merely an abstraction from science.
in the time of aristotle, science was so primitive that aristotle would name any endeavor to understanding human beings' surroundings as "philosophy," which might be the source from which you got the illusion that philosophy was supposed to deal with the "whole."
"whole"? what "whole"? do you know "whole" exists? how do you know? how do you know that you know? how "whole" is "whole"? ... ... ... ...
