The word "revolution" in English is far more ambiguous and misleading. "revolve" means "turning around like a wheel. The planet's movement around the sun is called revolution. E.g., "the earth's REVOLUTION around the sun has a period of roughly 365 days". When the word "revolution" is used in this context, it means a periodic repetition and non-essential routine orbital movement. However, when referring to political change, it goes exactly the opposite --- "revolution" means "fundamental and drastic change in power!"
As for "people's republic", there used to be many and there are still quite a few states or countries titled "people's republic", and only one of whose official language is Chinese.
