Kiteats, thank you for you reply. I think you should go back and read my previous articles posted under this topic if you really want to join the discussion. Your questions are: 1. There are so many different alphabetical languages in the world, which one is the best? 2. What is the significant importance of pointing out the problems of Hanzi since Chinese are not likely to change it anyway? Here are my answers: 1. Which alphabetical language is better (or is the best) is totally a different topic from mine. From my point of view, any alphabetical written system is better than Hanzi. Hanzi is so backward in human linguistic history. 2. For your second question, I have to answer it in two parts. First, linguistic is science and sciences only state facts and unveil truths. Discovering problems is the most important step of science and it is even more important than the solutions. From linguistic point of view, Hanzi can be changed into alphabetical system. There are many feasible ways to do it. I never doubt about this and actually I have work on this for years & come up with a very good solution. I have seen so many designs that are so much better and easy than Hanzi. So, whether Hanzi can be changed into alphabetical system is out of the question now. Secondly, does Chinese willing to change? I cannot answer this question in just few sentences. But I know that Japanese did it, Korean did it, and even Vietnamese did it too. I really do not know why Chinese cannot do it. Should there be any resistance for this? You bet! It is human nature that no one wants change. The only person who likes change is a baby with diaper. Let me put this in an extreme situation: what if Chinese after years of years struggle and finally realized that Hanzi is a root problem for their society, would they change? Any one will be turning back when he comes to a dead end and I do not Chinese is an exception. The problem is not that Chinese will not make a turn, but that I, or few of others state the truth way toooooo early. If we look back into human history, does that pretty much true for any scientific breakthroughs? Let me ask you a question instead. What would you do when you see people marching into a street and you knew for fact that the street is a dead-end? Are you telling everyone else the truth or will you go with them into the dead-end? For me, it is simple. I just lost any interests of joining any efforts of Chinese marching into a Hanzi dead-end since I know that is a dead-end. I never believe that using Hanzi Chinese will be able to develop a sophisticated working legal system, or to build a society with order and moral. Hanzi just do not have that powerful edge to make that happen. I hope my answers would help but I am not expecting you to understand fully. |
